find the right ring size

It can be pretty tricky to find the right ring size. Especially if the ring is a gift to someone else. We have a few methods and tips & tricks so that you easily can find the right size.

HOW SHOULD A RING FIT

The fit of the ring should not be so tight that it squeezes and feels cramped nor so loose that it slips of your finger and you risk loosing it. You have to be aware of that you will get different results of measuring depending on the conditions. Many people experience that their fingers are a bit swollen in the mornings and in hot climates. In the same way, many people feel that their fingers are more slimmed when it's cold. Therefore, we recommend you to measure your finger when you consider it to be the most "normal condition".

Keep in mind that a wide ring often needs to be slightly larger in size than a thinner ring.

1. USE AN OLD RING

The most common way to measure your ring size is to pick a ring that you already have at home and measure the circumference using a tape measure. If you want to measure the diameter instead, you can do so by placing a ruler across the ring. Make sure it's the inner dimension that you focus on and measure in millimeters. For example, if the inner diameter is 20 mm the ring size you need is a medium.

If you're going to buy a ring for someone but you do not live together this method will be tricky. But you can of course try to bring a measuring tape to their house next time you see each other and sneak into their jewellery box and measure one of their rings. If you get the wrong size you can easily change the size to a bigger or smaller one.

2. MEASURE YOUR RING SIZE WITH A MEASURING TAPE

Sometimes you don't have a good ring to measure at home. If that's the case we recommend you to use a measuring tape. Start by wrapping the measuring tape around the finger that you want the ring so be on. All your fingers are not the same size and are not symmetrical. When you feel that the measuring tape fits comfortably on your finger, try passing it over your knuckle. Try not to tighten the measuring tape too tightly or you will risk ordering a ring that is too small.

Once you are done measuring the circumference in millimeters convert it by using our guide further down on this page to get the right size on your ring.

3. USE A RULER

Everyone does not have a measuring tape at home but it's fine to use a ruler or a folding rule and a string/thread. Then you do exactly the same thing with your string or thread as you would to with the measuring tape. Then place the thread on the ruler or folding rule and measure the number of millimeters. Then convert the circumference of your finger by using our converter.
